Dominic O'Connell | Moderator

Our moderator for the day is Dominic O'Connell. Dominic is the business presenter of the Radio 4 Today Programme. He was formerly Business Editor of The Sunday Times, since 2010, and joined the paper in 2001. Before that, he was part of the launch team of Sunday Business. Under his editorship, the paper broke a series of big business stories including the news of BHS's pending administration, and previously the Pfizer bid for Astra Zeneca, the largest ever attempted takeover of a British company. As well as his role on the Today Programme, Dominic also appears regularly on Business Live on BBC World News and the News Channel, on World Service Radio business output, and contributes to the online business pages.

Andrzej Pioch | Legal & General Investment Management

Andrzej Pioch | Fund Manager, Legal & General Investment Management

Andrzej is a fund manager in the Multi-Asset Funds team. His responsibilities cover the portfolio management and ongoing development of both institutional and retail multi-asset funds and he leads on the management of the award-winning L&G Multi-Index fund range. Prior to joining LGIM in July 2014, he was a fund manager at Aviva Investors. He is a CFA charterholder and completed the MSc programme in Finance at Bocconi University in Milan. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and social science from Utrecht University. An ESG advocate, Andrzej holds GARP’s Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR®) Certificate and lectures at Queen Mary University of London on Portfolio Construction and Asset Allocation.

Carl Vine

Carl Vine | Portfolio Manager - M&G Investments

Carl Vine joined M&G in 2019 as Co-Head of Asian Investment, with 22 years of investment experience, and was appointed to the management teams of the Japan and wider Asian strategies. Carl co-founded Oxford-based Port Meadow Capital Management, a boutique investment firm, in 2014. Prior to that, he worked as a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager for SAC Capital Advisors in Hong Kong and was the Asian-based member of their global investment committee. Before that, Carl was a Managing Director at UBS in Hong Kong, where he invested proprietary capital across Asia and Japan, and a Principal for TPG-Axon Capital. He began his career with Prudential Portfolio Managers in London, before relocating to Tokyo to open Prudential’s Japan office. Carl holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy & Economics from Oxford University.

Deirdre Cooper

Deirdre Cooper | Head of Sustainable Equity - Ninety One

Deirdre is Head of Sustainable Equity within the Multi-Asset team at Ninety One. Deirdre is a leading voice in understanding and committing to sustainable investing, particularly investment to address and combat climate change. Ninety One’s Global Environment Strategy, which she co-manages, invests in companies enabling the transition to a low-carbon economy to capture the structural growth driven by decarbonisation. Prior to joining Ninety One in 2018, Deirdre was a Partner, Portfolio Manager and Head of Research at Ecofin.

George Fox | Jupiter

George Fox | Investment Manager - Jupiter

George joined Jupiter in November 2018 as an investment analyst on the Jupiter Merlin team before being promoted to Assistant Fund Manager a year and a half later. Now, as an Investment Manager, he helps the team run the £7bn Jupiter Merlin fund range, selecting & allocating to fund managers across multiple asset classes with the aim of continuing their 20 year track record in producing superior, risk-adjusted returns for their clients. Having attained a History degree, he is also a CFA® charterholder and has completed both the IMC & CFA ESG qualifications.

James Dow | Baillie Gifford

James is Head of the Global Income Growth Team and Co-Manager of The Scottish American Investment Company PLC. (SAINTS). He spent time previously at the firm as a Global Sector Specialist and as an Investment Manager in our US Equities Team, having joined Baillie Gifford’s graduate scheme in 2004. Prior to joining Baillie Gifford James spent three years working at The Scotsman newspaper, where he was the Economics Editor. James is a CFA Charterholder, graduated MA (Hons) in Economics-Philosophy from the University of St Andrews in 2000 and MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics in 2001.

James Syme | J O Hambro Capital Management

James Syme | Senior Fund Manager - J O Hambro Capital Management

Prior to joining JOHCM, James spent five years at Baring Asset Management (Baring) as the Head of Global Emerging Market Equities. James previously worked at SG Asset Management for seven years as a Portfolio Manager and as Head of Global Emerging Markets. Prior to 1997, James was a Portfolio Manager at Henderson Investors and an Analyst at H Clarkson. James is a CFA Charterholder and holds a BA (Hons) in Geography from the University of Cambridge.

Jess Foulds | Aviva Investors

Jess Foulds | Senior Manager, Global Responsible Investment - Aviva Investors

Jess works with Chief Responsible Investment Officer Steve Waygood in Aviva Investors Sustainable Finance Centre for Excellence driving change to the financial system through market reform. Prior to joining Aviva Investors, she led sustainability and responsible investment as a policy area at the Investment Association, where she represented the views of the investment management industry to advocate for policy change and support the development of industry standards and best practice. Jess has an undergraduate degree from the University of Cambridge in Modern and Medieval Languages and a Masters’ degree from Kings College London in Intelligence and International Security.

Jon Bell | BNY Mellon

Jon Bell | Portfolio Manager, Equity Income team - BNY Mellon Investment Management

Through his tenure at Newton, Jon has led both the global equity and multi-asset teams and been responsible for a number of multi-asset and global equity portfolios. As well as his extensive investment roles at the firm, he has also spent time as a member of the commercial team involved in discussing client portfolios and tailoring strategies to meet client requirements. He sits on Newton’s investment risk oversight groups. Jon joined the Newton equity income team in March 2020, and is responsible for both core and sustainable global equity income strategies.

Juan Valenzuela | Artemis

Juan Valenzuela | Fund Manager - Artemis

Juan has degrees in both Law and Business from Carlos III University in Madrid. He began his career in 2003 at JP Morgan in Edinburgh. He joined SWIP in 2006 to manage several mandates, including its Absolute Return Bond Fund. Juan went next to Alliance Trust, where from 2012 he helped launch and then co-managed the Dynamic Bond Fund. Before joining Artemis in February 2019, Juan worked from 2015 at Kames Capital, where he co-managed Kames’ Strategic (onshore and global) Bond Funds, LBPAM Kames Absolute Return Bond Fund and Core Plus Fund. Juan is a CFA charterholder.

Katie Trowsdale | abrdn

Katie Trowsdale | Head of Multi-Manager Strategies - abrdn

Katie is head of the Multi-Manager Strategies team at abrdn, where she is co-manager of the Flagship MyFolio fund range.  She joined the MyFolio team in 2011 and has over 22 years of investment experience.  Prior to this, she was portfolio manager for the Gartmore fund of fund team where she worked since 2007.  Previously Katie was a private client portfolio manager and fund of fund manager at Kleinwort Benson Private bank and Heartwood Wealth. Katie has a BSc in Economics and Management with German from Southampton University.  She is a chartered member of the Institute for Securities and Investment and holds the Investment Management Certificate.

Luke Barrs

Luke Barrs is Head of the Fundamental Equity Client Portfolio Management Team in EMEA at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Luke oversees the building of the Fundamental Equity franchise, drives business expansion, and communicates Fundamental Equity strategies to clients in EMEA. In his role as an Emerging Markets specialist, he is focused on helping clients gain appropriate access to emerging markets, as well as assisting with their strategic asset allocation decision making process. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs Asset Management he received a first-class B.A. (Hons) in Economics & Management from Exeter College, University of Oxford. He was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2013.

Nicholas Ware

Nicholas Ware | Portfolio Manager - Janus Henderson,

Nicholas Ware is a Portfolio Manager at Janus Henderson Investors, a position he has held since 2018. Nicholas joined Henderson as a director of loans in 2009 and became a director of strategic fixed income in 2012. From 2005 to 2009, he was a Senior Portfolio Analyst at Credit Hedge Fund Manager Highland Capital Management, where he helped build its European business. In 2004, he joined New Amsterdam Capital Management as a senior credit analyst. Prior to that, he worked at Ahli United Bank (UK) originating small and mid-market private equity transactions from 2002 to 2004. Nicholas spent 2000 to 2002 at SEB Merchant Bank originating senior and mezzanine transactions in the Nordic market. He was with Ford Credit, where he was responsible for establishing its subsidiary in Sweden, for two years before SEB Merchant Bank. He began his career in 1995 at PricewaterhouseCoopers and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. 

Omar Negyal | J.P. Morgan

Omar Negyal | Portfolio Manager - J.P. Morgan

Omar Negyal is a Portfolio Manager on the Emerging Markets and Asia Pacific Equities Team. Omar joined in October 2012. He has 16 years’ experience in Emerging Markets, with previous analyst and portfolio manager roles at HSBC Global Asset Management, Lansdowne Partners and F&C Asset Management. Omar has an MA, MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge and is a CFA Charterholder.

Paul Niven | Columbia Threadneedle Investments

Paul Niven | Head of Asset Allocation - Columbia Threadneedle Investments

Paul Niven is Managing Director and Head of Multi-Asset Portfolio Management. He is also Fund Manager for the F&C Investment Trust. Paul joined the firm in 1996 and has worked in Asset Allocation and Investment Strategy since 1999, after undertaking a fund management position in Pacific Basin Equities. Paul has had responsibility for the management of Multi-Asset mandates within the group since 2002 (including large portfolios for insurance clients) and is Chair of the Investment Policy Group. He is responsible for strategic and tactical portfolio construction as well as manager selection across a variety of institutional mandates. Paul graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Economics, obtained an MPhil in Finance, and is a member of the UK CFA Institute.

Robert Secker

Robert Secker is a portfolio specialist representing the firm's Asian and Chinese equity strategies to institutional clients, consultants, and prospects in the Equity Division. He is a vice president of T. Rowe Price International Ltd. Robert's investment experience began in 1997. He was with T. Rowe Price from 2000 to 2010, beginning as a portfolio specialist in the Equity Division, and returned in 2021. Prior to returning to the firm, Robert was head of the equity investment specialist team at M&G and the investment director for its emerging market equity strategies. Robert earned a B.A., with honors, in financial services from the University of Portsmouth. He also has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. CFA® and Chartered Financial Analyst® are registered trademarks owned by CFA Institute.

Shalin Shah

Shalin Shah | Senior Fund Manager, Royal London Asset Management

Shalin Shah joined Royal London Asset Management's Fixed Income team in 2008. Shalin is an experienced senior fund manager responsible for managing corporate bond portfolios, including RL Corporate Bond Fund, Sustainable Managed Income, Sustainable Managed Growth and Duration Hedged Credit funds. Since joining he has been involved in the development and management of RLAM’s Buy & Maintain proposition, and remains responsible for managing a range of buy & maintain and active portfolios. Prior to joining RLAM, Shah worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where he was involved in advising clients on a variety of investment solutions, including LDI and strategic asset allocation. Shalin holds a BSc in MORSE (Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics) from the University of Warwick and is a qualified actuary.

Stuart Edwards | Invesco

Stuart Edwards | Fund Manager - Invesco

Based in Henley-on-Thames, Stuart is responsible for a number of global bond, emerging market, and cash portfolios. Stuart began his investment career in 1997 at Standard & Poor’s as an economist, initially specialising in analysis of the Benelux region and then covering the UK fixed income and money markets with responsibility for forecasting UK economic data and providing fixed income strategy. On joining our company in 2003, he was initially the fixed income specialist within our Investment Communication team before successfully transferring to the Henley-based Fixed Interest team in January 2006 as a fixed income strategist, specialising in the analysis of macro economic data and trends. In March 2010 Stuart was promoted to the role of fund manager.

Vincent McEntegart, Investment Manager, is a member of the Multi-Asset Group. Prior to his current role, Vincent worked for Goodhart Partners (an MBO of the multi-manager business of WestLB Mellon Asset Management) where he was a partner responsible for client relationships and new business. Prior to this, Vincent was Co-Head of Investment Manager Research at Hymans Robertson and a senior member of the investment consulting practice. Vincent has also worked for Alexander Clay Consulting (now part of Aon) and Clerical Medical Investment Group. He has been in the industry since 1987 and started with the firm in 2013. Vincent has a BSc in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Strathclyde and a Diploma in Actuarial Techniques from the Institute of Actuaries.

Will Vaughan | Franklin Templeton

Will Vaughan | Portfolio Manager - Franklin Templeton

Will is an associate portfolio manager and research analyst on the Global Fixed Income team. He joined the firm in June 2015 and is based out of the office of Brandywine Global Investment Management (Europe) Ltd. in London. Previously, he was a European high yield analyst with Credit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank in London (2013-2015). William has also worked for Deutsche Bank Securities (New York)(2011-2012). He earned his M.Sc. in Carbon Management and Economics from the University of Edinburgh Business School and his B.Sc. in Environmental Geoscience from Durham University. He holds the UK Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and is a member of the CFA Society of the United Kingdom.
